Kerala cooperative inspectors and auditors’ demand for transferring criminal cases of serious nature to the police wing of the dept has not evoked much excitement in the relevant circles, reports New Indian Express.
Usually, cases of cheating, forgery and falsification of accounts, are being investigated by the internal vigilance wing instead of the police Vigilance team. Obviously, the cooperative department officials have some problems in handing over such cases to the police.
Sources requesting anonymity said the Registrar of Cooperatives (RoC) was under pressure to keep the vigilance officials at bay. The department may be trying to cover up the cases of fraud as the officials are scared of antagonizing the political leadership which controls cooperative institutions, sources said.
“When contacted, the registrar said during the previous regime, there was a move to wind up the vigilance wing”, reported the news paper.
Cooperative department inspectors and auditors, who probe malpractices during their inspections and auditing have invariably blamed political reasons for irregularities.
