Winding up its six-day tour of China the only chocklet producing cooperative in the country Campco team is back to India with export orders from the communist country.
A delegation from CAMPCO visited the province from June 13 to 18 and held talks with Kou Wei Wang Ji Tuan You Xian Gongsi company on making the proposal a reality.
The former Chairman of Campco Konkodi Padmanabha said an effort to export tender arcanut to China is indeed being made. “Last year a group of businessmen had come to Campco looking for tender arcanut which is used in manufacturing mouth fresheners. An agreement was signed.
Chinese delegation had toured arecanut-growing regions in Shivamogga and Tumakuru districts of Karnataka. Apart from selecting tender arecanuts, the Chinese experts also promised to train the people to process the tender arecanut to meet their own requirements.
“It is for a company in Hunan province which manufactures mouth fresheners. Addressing reporters on Tuesday, S.R. Satishchandra, president, CAMPCO, said that the company wants to prepare the mouth freshener from the peel of the tender arecanut.
The cooperative will now procure the tender arecanut required for the first consignment export from Thondamuthur area in Tamil Nadu and Wayanad area in Kerala.
