The proposed amendment in the Kerala Cooperative Societies (Second Amendment) Rules 2014 suggested in the report submitted by the K Sivadasan Nair Committee has given some practical solutions to the issues being faced by the Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS), reports New Indian Express.

It has also been pointed out that the report contained proposals to dilute the procedure in the appointment of the employees in such PACS.

One of the major proposals in the report was that the local candidates hailing from the area of operation of the PACS should be given a weightage of 10 per cent marks in the interview.

Earlier, the Cooperative Service Selection Board, which is entrusted with the examination, was conducting the examination with 80 marks for written tests and 20 marks for interview. However, the Sivadasan Nair report has proposed to provide 10 marks weightage for the local candidates.

“The major complaint raised before our committee was that in case of no local people getting appointed in PACS, it would not be in the interest of such societies.

He said though the report was submitted to the earlier government and it had initiated steps to make the amendments, now it was for the new Government to decide whether to approve the report or to reject it.
