Monique Leroux is named the head of Investissement Québec and she is to assume her responsibility on the Board on May 2. Besides being the President of International Cooperative Alliance (ICA) Ms Leroux has recently completed an eight-year term as the head of Desjardins.

Leroux replaces Louis Roquet, a career bureaucrat, who is retiring. The current president-director general of Investissement Québec, Pierre Gabriel Côté, retains his job, reports Montreal Gazette.

Hailing her new appointment IFFCO MD Dr U S Awasthi tweeted “Congratulations @MoniqueFLeroux for becoming the first woman President of @InvestQuebec. Prestigious & important position. Proud 4 @icacoop.”

Leroux, known for her energy and ability to get the job done — her name floated as a future politician — was the government’s first choice among candidates considered.

“She is a woman with a remarkable CV, with an enormous amount of experience, and who over the years had transformed a big organization like Desjardins,” quotes the newspaper.

The task ahead for Leroux at the Investissement Québec is to shake it up to make it more “proactive and aggressive,”. With a network of about 20 offices worldwide, Investissement Québec manages close to $8 billion in investment a year and is considered a key player in the economy.

As chairperson of the board, Leroux will be paid $37,000 a year plus $857 flat fees per meeting. At Desjardins she earned roughly $3.9 million a year, quotes Montreal Gazette.
