Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis has said if the cooperative sector fails, the monopoly of the private sector would harm farmers’ interests.
The chief minister was addressing the inaugural function in a cooperative sugar factory in Deola Tehsil of Nasik.
He said the cooperative sector was crucial and urged upon all stake-holders of the sector to work hard for achieving its betterment in the next days, reports Asian Age.
The chief minister underscored the importance of sugar factories in the cooperative sector.
Readers would note that a serious disagreement is simmering between the ruling BJP and the opposition NCP-Congress combine over the cooperative movement in Maharashtra.
While the former insists on carrying out reforms in the cooperative banking sector as per the directions of the RBI, the latter accuses the ruling party of destroying the cooperative sector in the name of reforms.
Sources say any move to revamp the cooperative sector in Maharashtra sends alarm bells ringing in the NCP-Congress combine as their whole politics is dependent on the control exercised over the network of cooperatives by them, sources claim.
