In separate orders passed recently, a three-member bench of the Pune district consumer forum, has directed the administrator of Ajit Cooperative Bank in Gultekdi Market Yard to return over Rs 7.52 lakh  along with 9% interest from the date of filing of the complaint till realisation, to a couple who had a term deposit with the bank , reports Times of India.

The forum also imposed penalties of Rs 35,000 towards physical and mental agony and Rs 4,000 towards legal costs to be paid within six weeks from the date of order.

A resident of Shri Laxmivihar Society, Hadapsar, had deposited various amounts adding up to a total Rs 6,89,013 in a term deposit with the bank on 16 occasions between April 2006 and October 2008. He also had Rs 22,115 in his savings account with the bank.

The term deposits matured in 2009. Meanwhile, the state cooperatives department put the bank under the control of an administrator due to various alleged irregular transactions.
