Pitching decisively for director transfer of subsidies to farmers, the largest farmers’ cooperative IFFCO has offered to lend support for whatever it takes to make it successful.
Managing Director of IFFCO Dr U S Awasthi said that “IFFCO is ready to train the farmers, finance the required swipe machines and any other infrastructure needed to make this dream project come true.
Dr. U S Awasthi tweeted “ #IFFCO is ready 2 finance d #Cooperative societies 4 d Swipe Machines, other infrastructure & training 2 make #DBT in #Fertilisers a reality.”
Earlier, talking to the daily newspaper Indian Express Awasthi is quoted saying Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) of fertiliser subsidy to farmers is an eminently feasible proposition and the Narendra Modi government should lose no time in going ahead with its implementation.
“People interested in stalling DBT are giving all sorts of excuses. They say it won’t work because a significant part of cultivation is today done by tenant farmers or sharecroppers not owning the land and without any formal lease agreements. But these concerns can easily be addressed,” he remarked.
In another tweet Dr. U S Awasthi says “DBT of #fertiliser subsidy 2 #farmers is an eminently feasible proposition .Let’s think for benefit for our #farmers.”
Recently the Modi government has launched direct cash transfer to farmers by introducing pilot projects for distribution of fertilizer in some of the districts of Odisha and Gujarat.
The NDA govt succeeded in introducing DBT to 10 crore LPG consumers earlier making it look “we can do it”. IFFCO Managing Director Dr U S Awasthi has been reiterating for DBT long before NDA govt came to power in these columns. Buoyed by the govt response he has offered infrastructural inputs to make it operational sooner than later.
