A news outlet reports the ruling BJP had not been able to make an inroad into the largest dairy cooperative AMUL in the recently held election while the opposition Congress has come up trumps in the election. However, the state government nominating three members on the board has caused a legal logjam.
Sources say the govt nominees on the board would neutralize Congress’s majority on the board. Apart from three elected BJP members and three nominated ones, there is a representative each from NDDB, Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), and Kheda District Cooperative Bank.
Meanwhile Congress candidate Ramsinh Parmar, has moved Gujarat High Court against the appointment of nominees. The High Court would hear the matter soon.
The daily ET quoted Parmer who said that” the government can make such appointment only if it holds share in the cooperative body or else if the cooperative body had borrowed from the government. “We have neither borrowed nor does the government hold any share in the dairy. So, there is no question of them nominating anyone,”.
Parmar is the lone Congress cooperator holding onto the last bastion of Kaira District Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union, also known as Amul Dairy was declared elected in a keenly contested election.
He has single handed kept BJP at bay so far His name had cropped up when media reported seizure of liquor bottles from a land plot linked to him in run-up to the elections. The raid took place on the plot at Thasra in Anand district.
