IFFCO MD Dr U S Awasthi has expressed concern on the slow internet speed available to the citizens in the country. A latest study places India at a poor 116th rank in terms of web speed whereas a country like Latvia enjoys 7 the position.
Scandinavian countries such as Finland, Sweden and Netherland have reported very high speed with South Korea beating them all with a speed of 22.2 mbps. It is being closely followed by Hong Kong and Japan with number 2 and 3rd rank respectively.
Calling web speed as the precursor for development IFFCO MD expressed his concern in a tweet ” #Web speed Ranking #India 2 mbps ranks 116th while #South Korea 22.2mbps ranks no 1. In 21st century net speed could define who is developed.”
Dr Awasthi has been struggling to make IFFCO member societies tech-savvy and in its latest 44th AGM a Twitter Stall was opened to get them onto the ways of internet and fast communication.
Even United States which has struggled with the issue of web speed for long ranks 24 with an average of 11.6 mbps. Much ahead of India’s 2mbps!

But if you have a slow internet connection speed then waiting for that page to load, that video to buffer, or that file to download can feel like an eternity.
One of the MD followers Soumyajeet Padhy, however assures that with PM’s Digital India campaign worth 18billion dollar of investment, the scenario will change in next 3 yrs.
Another of his follower goes a step ahead and demands that net access be declared a Fundamental Right. Vinod Kumar Tiwari tweets” @drusawasthi sir net access and web speed should be fundamental right in India. Like MSP in food, there should be minimum Internet speed.
