NCUI President’s negotiating skill was seen at its best on Tuesday when the apex cooperative body elected two vice-presidents in G H Amin and Bijender Singh without any hitch.
Returning officer Mr VP Singh announced formally in the afternoon that the two have been elected unopposed thereby putting an end to the uncertainty for good. Sivdasan Nair, the man in the race earlier did not even file his nomination.
Later talking to Indian Cooperative Chandra Pal Singh said it was Sivdasan Nair who wanted Bijender Singh to succeed him, a development barely comprehendible to many. ”The entire Board reposed faith in me and wanted me
to do the way I like, said Mr Yadav. “It was not tough given the unity in our team”, he added.
I asked Mr Amin and Mr Bijender Singh to file nominations and it was smooth thereafter.
Sources informed Indian Cooperative that Amin who was not certain of his re-election had decided to sit in opposition if he was to be denied a chance. Chandra Pal would certainly not have liked a divided house, especially when Ashok Dabas is already upto some “mischief”, said one of the GC members on condition of anonymity to Indian Cooperative.
But Chandra Pal was dismissive of Dabas’s petition on Tuesday and played it down saying “its nothing and we are least bothered; we will cross that bridge when we come to it”, Yadav said.
However, the GC was informed about Dabas petition. It is a rule and the members were informed through notice, NCUI President said.
On Bijender Singh being elected Vice-President Chandra Pal said he is a senior leader and has recently been denied the NCCF Chairmanship after government arbitrarily appointed Administrator. “Even NAFED is not operating smoothly and the experience of a senior cooperator like him must be utilized”, Yadav said betraying his weakness for Bijender Singh.
