Newly elected Chairman vows to restore glory of Biscomaun

The charismatic cooperator from Bihar Dr Sunil Kumar Singh was elected Chairman of Biscomaun on Monday in Patna during the Special General Body meeting which was unprecedented in terms of participation. Of the 207 delegates, about 190 had come to participate in the historical event which, many feel, is going to shape the future of state cooperative movement.

As predicted by Indian Cooperative Gopal Giri was elected Vice-Chairman.  All the elections went off unopposed, said Sunil Singh soon after his elevation to the top post. I will aim at making the Biscomaun get back its glory as enjoyed in the era of Tapeshwar Babu, he informed.

Biscomaun was a household name in the time of Tapeshwer Singh who is regarded as a man who single handed ignited the cooperative movement in the state touring on bicycles in the remote areas.

Shortly I am going to meet Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh. My agenda is simple “I wish that 25 percent of the fertilizers coming to the state should be given to Biscomaun which would be distributed to farmers through PACS by us.

The poor farmers of the state are forced to buy fertilizer in the black market paying high price and if Biscomaun could help them we would be happy. Distributing seed and fertilizer as done in the era of Tapeshwar Babu are our twin objectives, he added.

The newly –elected Chairman of Biscomaun is excited as he sees a clear field now since the Biscomaun is no more going to be hemmed by the state governments in the wake of it being granted multi-state cooperative status by the Central Registrar.

Much of our lands are lying unutilized in Jharkhand and Bihar as the restriction of state govt was there in the past. Now in the changed scenario we would put these to use benefiting the cooperative behemoth. Readers would recall that the Biscomaun is a loss-making cooperative so far. Talking to Indian Cooperative the energized Chairman vowed to make it profitable in two years of time.

We have a very strong team as 9 of our directors on Board are either Chairmen or Vice-Chairmen of District Central Co-operative banks, said Sunil Singh.
