The election to the Maharashtra State Cooperative (MSC) will be held in June, indicated Anand Jogdand, secretary of state cooperative election authority, Times of India says.

Jogdand had come to review the cooperative elections in Kolhapur and Sangli districts. He said June 28 is the tentative date of the election and added that the process to prepare the voters’ list has already started.

“The authority is conducting elections to 18 district central cooperative banks in the state. These banks will go to the polls on May 3. Thereafter, the process to conduct MSC bank poll will gather momentum. At present, the preparation of draft voters’ list is underway,” he said.

Jogdand said the MSC bank will have a board of directors of comprising 12 members elected from six revenue zones in the state, while the urban bank and credit societies will have two directors. As many as five seats will be for reserved category candidates and two will be from other societies. , he added.

Sources say the MSC bank election will be crucial as the additional registrar of cooperative department had issued notices to 43 of its former directors, including former deputy chief minister and NCP leader Ajit Pawar for alleged irregularities. The bank suffered losses to the tune of over Rs 1,300 crore due to irregularities in selling ailing sugar factories and distributing loans to cooperative institutions.
