NCUI election: Allegations & counter allegations
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Ashok Dabbas-yadavThe outgoing GC member Ashok Dabas has accused Chandra pal and his team of indulging in wrong practices in the run-up to the NCUI election scheduled for March 16. Chandra Pal has rubbished all accusations and said “he is spreading rumour as he knows things have gone out of his hands this time.”

Ashok Dabas belittled Election Officer V P Singh as the personal choice of the outgoing President Chandra Pal Singh Yadav. Talking to the Indian Cooperative Yadav denied this vehemently and said “ all the GC members know that it was the Board resolution and need I give any explanation. You can check it out from other members ”.

On the issue of Lakhan Lal Sahu, Dabas said Sahu was delisted from the voter list in a pre-planned manner and was not even given enough time to go to court. “Well this is the call of the Returning Officer but since I know the case I can tell you that according to section 38(2) and (3) wherever there is no board, the administrator represents the society.

“In case of Mr Sahu there was no resolution of the Board and as such his candidature cannot be accepted. He filled the form nevertheless; I support the stand taken by the election officer in this matter”, he added.

Accusing the NCUI officials of acting at the behest of the NCUI President Dabas said cash towards the dues of the defaulting societies to the tune of Rs one lakh was accepted. The rule says any payment of more than Rs 20,000 should either be in cheque or Bank Draft. But it was openly flouted by the NCUI , Dabas added.

“Where is the rule? We go by our byelaws and nowhere is written anything like this. They are our members and if they are making the last-minute payment to be eligible to vote, should we turn them back”, retorted Chandra Pal.

Replying to Dabas’s charge of not giving enough time to the candidates to muster support, Chandra Pal said ” more than a month was there for everyone. And this is simply not understandable”. Dabas had earlier accused that on January 12 the GC decided to hold election while the notification for the same was made on 23rd January thereby giving an advantage of about 10 days to the GC members for canvassing, compared to other claimants for the top positions in the apex cooperative body.

Allegations and counter-allegations are coming thick and fast as the day of election is drawing close. If Dabas accuses the existing regime of lacking in transparency and fair-play, the latter finds him a typical case of sour grapes.
