Pramod Kumar Singh, the Chairman of Uttrakhand Co-operative Federation organized a cooperative function recently in the state inviting the Chief Minister Harish Rawat. Majority of the cooperative leaders of the state and districts participated in the event discussing issues bothering cooperatives.
Mr Singh was emphatic that if cooperative has to progress it has to break-free of governmental shackles, a view expressed by many including our columnist I C Naik who wrote a detailed piece on the issue “sarkar mukta sahakar” recently.
In his Facebook Post Mr Pramod Kumar Singh wrote “The need of the hour is to help farmers through cooperatives as much as possible and this is possible only when they are free of bureaucratic control”.
Speaking in the meeting the Chief Minister Mr Rawat stressed on the participation of cooperative banks in the government schemes where 80 percent loan is given by the latter. Rawat, however, stressed the need to modernize in order to remain viable in the long run.
Several chairmen of district banks as well as the chairmen of important cooperative organizations of the state were present on the occasion. Rawat promised to take along cooperative and exhorted leaders to work at village-level.
