jailalitaStudents’ cooperative stores in Tamil Nadu are very popular and functioning successfully in 300 educational institutions. The cooperative stores have been functioning since the 50s. Thousands of students, teachers and non-teaching staff are associated with these stores. Sources describe it as a unique student cooperative movement in the country.

Tiruchi district in the state is known for its wide network of student cooperative stores. The Jamal Mohamad College students cooperative store has once again been adjudged the best student cooperative store in the district. The award winning store claims an annual turnover of Rs. 15 lakh.

The cooperative dept of Tamil Nadu has been active promoting student cooperative stores across the state.

The benefits of cooperative stores include availability of low-priced stationary and other things at the doorsteps of students.
