IFFCO is in the last phase of conducting world biggest cooperative elections. The nominations for the coveted positions of Directorship begin today. About 21 Directors are to be elected.
The filing of the nomination could be done from 17th to 21st April. Hopefuls are arriving in Delhi and looking for auspicious day from within these five days to file papers.
Cooperative elections are quite complex and IFFCO’s is no exception. From among the 12 constituencies, 21 Directors are to be elected. There is chance that majority of Directors would get re-elected but a few upsets could not be ruled out, said a source on condition of anonymity.
The major contest is confined to three constituencies which represent the primary cooperative societies. They are large in number and are spread across many states. Campaigning for oneself and having an appeal across several states is no child’s job.
The elections for the Directors would finally take place on 2nd May-a day filled with anticipations for the hopeful cooperators.
As per IFFCO Bye-Laws which are proposed by the RGB and registered by the Central Registrar in accordance with the Multi State Cooperative Societies Act- 2002, all the 21 Directors, including the Directors from Federations are to be elected. Presently, there are thirty Directors on IFFCO Board.
The composition of IFFCO Board : 11 directors are elected by the member cooperative societies, 10 directors from member Federations, 7 Functional Directors including Managing Director and two co-opted directors.
Representative General Body (RGB) of IFFCO is the highest policy and decision making body for which the elections have been completed.
Earlier, talking to Indiancooperative.com, Dr U.S. Awasthi, Managing Director, IFFCO said “ I am delighted to share with you that the delegate elections have been completed in peaceful manner. This time we have got representation from every state of the country. The entire elections involved 20 state offices and 73 area offices of IFFCO.
