The National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) have reviewed progress on a joint project to develop a cow-dung biogas and organic fertiliser ecosystem under India-Japan cooperation.
A JICA delegation led by Chief Representative Takeuchi Takuro met senior NDDB officials to discuss the Quick Start Project (QSP). NDDB Chairman Dr Meenesh Shah joined the meeting virtually.
The JICA team presented initial findings on field trials assessing organic fertilisers, including FOM, LFOM and PROM, improved fertiliser application methods, biogas fermentation processes and digestate quality. Discussions also covered value-chain assessments, viable business models and policy recommendations.
Dr Shah assured NDDB’s full support and stressed the need for a time-bound action plan involving NDDB, JICA, dairy cooperatives and agricultural universities.
The initiative aims to promote resource recycling and strengthen circularity in the dairy sector.
