The Ministry of Cooperation has placed strengthening the cooperative banking network high on its agenda, with Union Ministers of State for Cooperation Krishan Pal Gurjar and Murlidhar Mohol reviewing key priorities under the National Cooperation Policy 2025.
At a high-level review meeting co-chaired by the two ministers, discussions focused on strengthening the three-tier cooperative credit structure comprising Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS), District Central Cooperative Banks (DCCBs) and State Cooperative Banks (StCBs).
The meeting also deliberated on expanding cooperative banks’ branch networks, introducing new financial products and improving their access to government business. Enhancing cybersecurity infrastructure and digital capabilities was identified as another important priority.
Special attention was given to strengthening Urban Cooperative Banks (UCBs) through the National Urban Cooperative Finance and Development Corporation (NUCFDC).
The discussions underline the Centre’s focus on improving the institutional capacity, technological readiness and outreach of cooperative banks to make the cooperative credit system more resilient and inclusive.
