The National Cooperative Exports Limited (NCEL) and Sri Lanka’s COOPFED have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to facilitate the supply of essential food commodities from India to Sri Lanka, strengthening cooperation between the two countries’ cooperative sectors.
The agreement is aimed at ensuring a steady and uninterrupted supply of essential food items to Sri Lanka while creating new opportunities for trade and commercial collaboration between cooperative institutions in India and Sri Lanka.
Sri Lanka’s Minister of Trade, Commerce, Food Security and Cooperative Development Sant Jha and India’s High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Santosh Jha were present on the occasion.
The initiative is expected to support the availability of essential commodities for Sri Lankan consumers and contribute to stronger bilateral trade ties.
The agreement also reflects India’s broader “Sahkar Se Samriddhi” (Prosperity through Cooperation) vision and highlights the growing role of cooperatives in facilitating cross-border trade and strengthening economic partnerships.
The MoU marks another step towards deepening cooperative-led collaboration between India and Sri Lanka.
