The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly will take up a Bill seeking amendments to the Jammu and Kashmir Cooperative Societies Act, 1989, during its Autumn Session beginning Monday.
Minister-in-Charge Cooperatives Javid Ahmad Dar will introduce LA Bill No. 9 of 2026, which proposes to repeal the Jammu and Kashmir Self Reliant Cooperative Act, 1999 and provide transitional arrangements for self-reliant cooperatives under the 1989 Act.
The Bill has already been published in an extraordinary issue of the Official Gazette. Its introduction marks a significant legislative step concerning the legal framework governing cooperative societies in the Union Territory.
