Karnataka State Souharda Federal Cooperative Ltd. (KSSFCL) marked its 25th year with a large and participative Silver Jubilee programme in Bengaluru on September 8, drawing around 2,700 cooperative representatives from 31 districts of Karnataka.
Held at Royal Tripuravasini, Palace Grounds, the event combined the Federal’s annual general body with technology, healthcare and awareness programmes, giving the Silver Jubilee celebrations a distinctly member-centric character.
S.B. Shettannavar, IAS, Secretary, Cooperation Department, Government of Karnataka, inaugurated the Silver Jubilee celebrations and said the Souharda cooperative movement was functioning very well in the State. He called for further strengthening and expansion of the sector so that Souharda cooperatives could provide more comprehensive and effective services to their members.
Shettannavar also released the “Belli Belaku” Silver Jubilee souvenir and a KSSFCL publication. Referring to the recent amendments to the Souharda Act, 2025, he noted the dissatisfaction among Souharda cooperatives and their decision to approach the court. He suggested that the issue could also be addressed through discussions with the Government.
The annual general body began with the flag hoisting by KSSFCL President G. Nanjana Gowda. Vice-President A. R. Prasanna Kumar welcomed the gathering and introduced the directors. A two-minute silence was observed in memory of farmers, soldiers and others from various fields who had passed away.
Addressing the members, Nanjana Gowda outlined the progress of KSSFCL and the Souharda movement in Karnataka and India. The session also witnessed detailed discussions on issues concerning the movement, with the president responding to questions raised by members.
Managing Director Sharanagowda G. Patil presented the agenda and proposals, which were unanimously approved.
A major highlight of the celebrations was the inauguration of 108 Common Service Centres (CSCs) by Dr. M. V. Venkatesh, Registrar of Cooperative Societies. He highlighted the unique position of Souharda cooperatives in Karnataka and appreciated their emphasis on autonomy, self-governance and self-regulation.
At the same time, Venkatesh urged members and managements to remain vigilant against fraud and cheating, particularly in matters involving members’ deposits.
Joint Registrar of Cooperative Societies Dr. K. C. Suresh Gowda said the achievements of the Souharda cooperative sector had earned widespread public appreciation.
The Silver Jubilee programme also sought to connect cooperatives with emerging technology. A Techno Fair featuring 41 companies from technology and service sectors provided cooperative institutions an opportunity to explore digital solutions, modern technologies and innovative services aimed at strengthening and modernising the sector.
Healthcare was another major component. A free health check-up camp was organised in association with Victoria Hospital, Bengaluru. Fifteen doctors and 25 supporting staff conducted examinations, while a blood donation camp was also held. Delegates from across Karnataka availed themselves of the facilities.
The celebrations also included felicitation of 2025 Sahakar Ratna awardees, outstanding individual cooperators and best Souharda cooperatives, besides special felicitation of senior government officials.
The 25th anniversary thus became more than a commemorative event, combining member participation, institutional review, government interaction, digital transformation and social initiatives while highlighting the continuing role of Souharda cooperatives in Karnataka.
