Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma reviewed the state’s dairy sector and outlined a five-year roadmap aimed at increasing milk production, strengthening processing infrastructure and expanding the cooperative network.
During the meeting with senior officials on Monday, the Chief Minister directed the department to undertake a series of measures to accelerate the growth of Assam’s dairy economy and create stronger institutional support for farmers.
As part of the roadmap, the government will convene a multi-stakeholder brainstorming session to gather inputs from key stakeholders and develop a coordinated strategy for the sector. Sarma also directed officials to fill vacant positions in the concerned department to improve administrative capacity and implementation.
A comprehensive livestock survey has also been proposed to assess the state’s cattle population and strengthen future planning.
Special emphasis was placed on conserving Assam’s indigenous Lakhimi breed, with the Chief Minister directing officials to promote its preservation through women-led cooperative societies.
