The Central Registrar of Cooperative Societies (CRCS) has directed the Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu Cooperation Departments to convene Annual General Body Meetings (AGMs) of two multi-state cooperative societies to facilitate elections to their boards.
In Maharashtra, the direction concerns Shivraj Multi State Cooperative Milk & Agro Processing Society Ltd., Chh. Sambhaji Nagar, whose election requisition was received seven months after the board’s tenure expired.
In Tamil Nadu, a similar direction has been issued for The Spencer’s Group Companies & Spencer’s Group Hotel Employees’ Cooperative Credit Society Ltd., Chennai, where the requisition was received eight months after the expiry of the board’s tenure.
The CRCS said the delays have been condoned by the competent authority to facilitate the election of democratically elected boards.
As neither society has a subsisting board, the respective State departments have been asked to nominate a Deputy Registrar or an officer of higher rank to convene the AGM under Section 39(2) of the MSCS Act.
The AGM will prepare the electoral roll, initiate the election process under the Cooperative Election Authority (CEA), and consider necessary bye-law amendments. The exercise must be completed within 60 days of the appointment of the designated officer. The same officer will also serve as Assistant Returning Officer during the elections.
