The Co-operative Election Authority (CEA) has rejected recommendations made by the Returning Officer (RO) regarding the election of office-bearers of the Indian Diversified and Sustainable Agriculture Cooperative Limited.
In a letter issued on August 21, addressed to the District Magistrate, Varanasi, who is also the Returning Officer, the CEA said the recommendations submitted through Form 19N on August 11 were not acceptable.
The Authority clarified that approval for the constitution of the cooperative’s Board of Directors had already been granted on August 17 under Rule 19M of the Multi-State Cooperative Societies Rules, 2002. While granting the approval, the CEA had also specified a fresh date for conducting the election of office-bearers.
The CEA stressed that the Board must be constituted with the Authority’s prior approval before the office-bearer election can be conducted, as required under Rule 19M(1) and (14). It also noted that the meeting must be chaired by the Returning Officer under Rule 19M(2).
The Authority directed that the office-bearer election be conducted on the date specified in its August 17 communication.
