President of India Droupadi Murmu has given assent to the National Co-operative Development Corporation (Amendment) Act, 2026, completing the legislative process for the NCDC reform legislation. The Act was published in the Gazette of India on Friday, as Act No. 19 of 2026.
The amended law significantly expands NCDC’s financial powers. It enables the Corporation to provide loans and grants directly to cooperative societies or entities engaged in cooperative development, subject to prescribed security requirements.
With Central Government approval, NCDC can also participate in the share capital of cooperative societies and entities engaged in cooperative development.
The Act broadens the definition of cooperative development and expands NCDC’s scope to include processed food and other edible products.
The Act will come into force on a date to be notified separately by the Central Government.
