Indian Potash Ltd (IPL) will set up and operate two sugar mills at Sakri in Madhubani and Raiyam in Darbhanga under Bihar Government’s “Samriddh Udyog-Sashakt Bihar” initiative of Saat Nischay-3, Cooperative Department Minister Ram Kripal Yadav said on August 12.
An agreement has already been signed with IPL, with production expected to begin soon. The two projects will also include distilleries, cogeneration power plants and Compressed Biogas (CBG) units. The Minister said revival of closed sugar mills remains a government priority, with other units to be taken up subsequently.
Yadav said the projects would boost farmers’ incomes and generate local employment. He also highlighted Bihar’s Cooperative Policy 2026, aimed at making the cooperative movement modern, innovative and future-ready while bringing farmers, women, youth and entrepreneurs into its fold.
The department is also developing 350 panchayat-level vegetable collection centres and 50 block-level facilities. Primary Vegetable Producer Cooperative Societies have been established in all 534 blocks. Besides, the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana will be implemented in Bihar from Rabi 2026-27, providing farmers crop-cost-linked insurance protection.
