The Government of India is continuing to promote organic farming across the country, including Assam, through the Paramparagat Krishi Vikas Yojana (PKVY) and the Mission Organic Value Chain Development for North Eastern Region (MOVCDNER), Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah informed the Lok Sabha in a written reply.
Launched in 2015-16 by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, both schemes provide end-to-end support to farmers, covering production, processing, certification and marketing of organic produce. The programmes focus on forming organic clusters, particularly benefiting small and marginal farmers, while developing robust supply chains through State and Union Territory governments.
Under PKVY, farmers receive assistance of Rs. 31,500 per hectare over three years, including Rs. 15,000 per hectare through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) for on-farm and off-farm organic inputs.
Under MOVCDNER, assistance of Rs. 46,500 per hectare is provided over three years for creating Farmer Producer Organisations and supporting organic cultivation. Of this, Rs. 32,500 per hectare is earmarked for organic inputs, including Rs. 15,000 transferred directly to farmers through DBT.
