Union Cooperation Minister Amit Shah informed the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday that Jharkhand has 12,207 cooperative societies, while Gujarat has 88,119, according to the National Cooperative Database (NCD) as on July 15, 2026.

Replying to a question in the House, Shah said the database contains sector-wise details of total and functional cooperatives in both states, including Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS), dairy, fishery, tribal, women welfare and multipurpose cooperatives.

The Minister said the Centre’s PACS Computerisation Project, launched in 2022, has been expanded from 63,000 PACS to 79,630 PACS, with the financial outlay increasing from Rs 2,516 crore to Rs 2,925.39 crore. The ERP-based national software aims to bring all functional PACS onto a common digital platform, enhancing efficiency, transparency and service delivery.

Shah also informed the House that the National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC) has continued financial support to cooperative institutions across states during the last five years.

Highlighting measures for inclusive growth, he said the Ministry has created a dedicated window on the National Cooperative Database to monitor cooperatives in aspirational and tribal districts.
