The Centre has no proposal to set up regional cooperative offices in State capitals, Union Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah informed the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday.

However, he said the Ministry has established a regional office of the Central Registrar of Cooperative Societies (CRCS) in Pune, Maharashtra, to strengthen the monitoring and governance of Multi-State Cooperative Societies (MSCS).

Replying to a question in the Upper House, Shah said the Pune office will oversee MSCS functioning in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Goa, Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu under the Multi-State Cooperative Societies Act, 2002.

The Minister said 5,078 sq. ft. of office space has been leased for the regional office, which is currently operating from the Vaikunth Mehta National Institute of Cooperative Management (VAMNICOM) campus. Ten posts have been created for the office, while two officials have already been posted on deputation. No separate budget has been earmarked, and the expenditure will be met from the budget of the CRCS Headquarters.

Shah added that besides monitoring and governance of MSCSs in the five States/UTs, the Pune regional office will improve coordination between these societies and the CRCS Headquarters in New Delhi.
