No Formal BBSSL Branch in Bihar Yet: Govt

Union Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah informed the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday that Bharatiya Beej Sahakari Samiti Ltd. (BBSSL) has not yet established a formal branch office in Bihar but has built an operational presence in the state through its field officials and cooperative network.

Replying to a question, Shah said BBSSL is conducting seed business in Bihar through Bihar Rajya Beej Nigam Ltd., the designated nodal agency for the state. Seed production and distribution activities are being coordinated with the nodal agency, local cooperative institutions and other stakeholders.

He added that during FY 2026-27, BBSSL supplied seeds of various crops directly to 20 cooperative societies in Bihar, further strengthening its cooperative-based seed distribution network in the state.

Highlighting the society’s farmer-centric procurement policy, Shah said BBSSL ensures seed-producing farmers receive the highest of three benchmark prices: Minimum Support Price (MSP) plus at least a 10% incentive on graded seed, the prevailing mandi price, or the procurement price offered by the concerned State Seed Corporation.

The minister said the pricing mechanism guarantees assured procurement, protects farmers from market price fluctuations and provides a premium for producing quality seeds that meet prescribed technical standards.
