The National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB), Eastern Regional Centre (ERC), Bhubaneswar, in collaboration with Purushottam FFPO Co-operative Society Ltd., organized an Aquaculture Insurance Awareness Programme at Golara in Odisha’s Puri district to promote risk protection among fish farmers.
The programme was chaired by Prajna Ritambhara Swain, Senior Executive and Officer In-Charge, NFDB-ERC, who highlighted various NFDB schemes and their benefits.
Dr. Ambika Prasad Nayak, Scientist at KVK Puri, explained the importance of aquaculture insurance, while Dr. Biswaranjan Swain, Professor at IIT Bhubaneswar, stressed the need for greater awareness. Sanghamitra, ADFO, Brahmagiri, also participated.
Addressing over 100 fish farmers, Ghanshyam Pradhan, Chairman of Purushottam FFPO Co-operative Society Ltd., thanked NFDB and the Government of India for introducing farmer-friendly initiatives.
NFDB’s Amar Kumar Nayak explained the Aquaculture Insurance Scheme under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Kisan Samridhi Sah-Yojana (PM-MKSSY), while Saurav Gupta, Deputy Manager, Agriculture Insurance Company of India Ltd., outlined policy coverage, premiums, risk protection, and claim settlement procedures.
The programme aimed to strengthen financial resilience and promote sustainable aquaculture through wider insurance adoption.
